Devant Inc. (“Devant,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use The Alumni Advantage platform (“Platform”).

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Definitions

• Personal Information: Any information that identifies or could reasonably identify you (e.g., name, phone number, email, institution).

• Usage Data: Information on how you interact with the Platform, collected automatically through analytics tools.

• Partner Institution: A post-secondary institution with which Devant has an agreement to provide the Platform to its alumni, students, or affiliates.

• Vetted Partners: Third-party service providers or collaborators who meet Devant’s contractual privacy and security requirements.

2. Governing Laws & Compliance

We comply with AODA, PIPEDA, GDPR, and other applicable privacy laws.
If you are located outside Canada, your data may be transferred to and processed in Canada or other countries where our service providers operate, with appropriate safeguards (e.g., GDPR Standard Contractual Clauses).

• Institution affiliation (if applicable)

b. Mandatory Registration Information

• Name

• Phone number

• Email address

• Country of origin

• Student status (e.g., international, alumni, permit holder)

• Program of study

• Campus location

c. Voluntary Information (optional forms)

• Year of graduation

• Province of residence

• Career stage or interests

• Sector preferences

• Address (e.g., for resume builder tool)

We do not collect sensitive data such as health, biometric, political, or criminal history information.

d. Usage Data

• Pages visited, tools accessed, event attendance, click behavior

• Captured using Microsoft Power BI and other approved analytics tools.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Platform

• Provide personalized content and career tools

• Track engagement to better serve users and institutions

• Inform participating institutions about alumni engagement (aggregated or identifiable, depending on consent)

• Communicate with you about events, features, or opportunities via email and, if you opt in, SMS (see Section 14)

• Support account security and user verification (including via your phone number)

• Monitor compliance with our Terms of Use

• Comply with legal obligations

• Automated Decision-Making: If we use automated matching or recommendations (e.g., for jobs or events), you may request human review of significant decisions affecting you.

5. Sharing of Your Information

• We do not sell personal data.

• We may share your data with:

• Your institution, only with explicit opt-in consent (withdrawable at any time)

• Vetted partners and service providers (e.g., Microsoft for data processing; SMS providers such as Twilio) under strict contractual privacy safeguards

• Event collaborators or recruiters, if you explicitly register for their events

• Employers/job providers, only if you upload your resume and provide explicit consent

• We may also disclose data to comply with legal obligations or protect our rights/prevent fraud.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your information as long as necessary for the purposes in this policy or as required by law.

If you request deletion at info@devant.ca, we will delete your account; personal identifiers are removed and activity data is anonymized for reporting.

Backups containing personal data are securely purged within 90 days of confirmed deletion.

SMS data: Your phone number and SMS preferences are retained only as long as needed to provide SMS services or until you withdraw consent (see Section 14).

7. Data Anonymization & Security

• Anonymization: Personal identifiers are irreversibly removed when accounts are deleted.

• Pseudonymization: Some activity data uses unique IDs that cannot be linked to you without additional secure data.

• Security Measures: Encryption (including SQL Server Always Encryption for audit logs), secure access controls, and industry-standard safeguards.

8. Your Rights

Under GDPR, PIPEDA, and similar laws, you can:

• Access your personal information

• Request corrections or deletion

• Withdraw consent at any time (including SMS consent; reply STOP)

• Request a machine-readable copy (data portability)

• Opt out of marketing communications

We respond to verified requests within 30 days. Contact info@devant.ca. We may require proof of identity.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Platform is not intended for individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

10. Cookies & Tracking

If cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics are used beyond Power BI, we will disclose details in our Cookie Policy and request consent where required.

11. Data Breach Notification

If a data breach poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and regulators within legally required timelines.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-platform notifications, and version history will be available.

14. SMS Communications (Opt-In; phone number mandatory)

By providing your mandatory phone number, you may separately consent to receive SMS from Devant about event reminders, updates, and related promotions. Message frequency is limited to 8 per month. Standard message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP or contacting info@devant.ca.

We use third-party providers (such as Twilio) to deliver SMS. They are contractually obligated to safeguard your data and process it only on our instructions. Your number is retained only as long as necessary to provide this service or until you withdraw consent. Depending on your location, your data may be processed outside your jurisdiction in accordance with Section 2.
